Welcome to C.A.T.S. Youth Theatre
CATS Youth Theatre (CATS) was formed in 1994 by Louise and Paul Cohen, to provide an education in stage skills and experience in theatrical performance for young people ages between 8 and 21 years. We currently have over 100 members spread across our two groups.
Senior Group
This group consists of members aged 13 and over, and/or more experienced members. Members practise and develop their skills through more challenging workshops and demonstrate their skills through performance. The Senior group produces two big shows each year.
Junior Group
This group consists of children under the age of 14 years. The aims of the group are to:
- teach theatre skills, dance and singing
- increase confidence
- teach stage discipline
- enable members to learn new skills and achieve their potential in a non-threatening environment
- provide the opportunity for members to demonstrate their skills through performance
In 2003 Louise and Paul were awarded the GMDF “Muriel Goodwin” Trophy in recognition of their “outstanding contribution to Youth Theatre”.

Campaign to save Theatre Church:
In September CATS Youth Theatre began a campaign to raise the funds to purchase the Theatre Church in Astley Bridge, Bolton. We need to raise around £750,000 to buy the theatre, not just for CATS but for all Theatre Church users and for the benefit of the community.
The Theatre Church is currently home to 5 amateur dramatic societies, 2 youth theatre companies, 8 dance groups and various community groups. It has been placed on the market this month, and the impending sale by the Methodist Church could result in the facility being lost to those who currently use it and the wider community who enjoy it.
